7 ways to refresh your psyche
ef grace. July, 2022.
Every day, we are exposed to a multitude of stresses-- those in our or our loved ones' lives, in our societies, or in our environments. Of course, it can be difficult to resolve these tensions immediately, especially when it often feels like these stresses just keep coming. Putting it off for our "future self" to deal with could be a handy, or even strategic move in the moment, however, allowing psychic stresses to accumulate over time can lead to an internal toxic buildup.
While you're out there conquering the world, don't forget to pay attention to your state of mind! At first we may not even notice or acknowledge the overwhelm, yet, left unchecked, these energies can beget negative manifestations in your life that can be damaging to you and those around you.
It is so important to yourself and others to ground and re-center from time. I'd like to share these 7 tips that often help me shed this heavy state and cleanse my psychic palette.

It is so important to yourself and others to ground and re-center from time. I'd like to share these 7 tips that often help me shed this heavy state and cleanse my psychic palette.
1. Declutter
Whether you notice it consciously or not, physical and visual clutter eventually become psychic weight. Each item in your visual range sends some message to your brain, whether it is simply a light cue that translates its color, or more complex messages, like reminders of tasks and consequences. That is enough information to tug at your attention, even if for a moment. Now multiply those moments by the number of items you keep within view. Though you may learn to block some things out, there is still a portion of your energy being used to do this, much in the way dormant plugged-in electronics still slowly drain energy all day.
Listen, I can hardly be considered a minimalist-- I certainly love sitting among my various treasures and appreciating what they mean to me. I am also a believer of "out of sight, out of mind" in my workspace. However, that means what is in sight, is also in mind! When the psychic traffic starts to bog you down, giving your eyes and brain a visual break can allow your thoughts to flow more freely.

2. It's time to check it off!How many half-done projects do you have waiting in the wings? Much like visual clutter, these can cause a steady mental drain from the back burner. All the while, you might find yourself rehashing feelings of anxiety and guilt at the ongoing procrastination. Beating yourself up isn't the answer, though.
Whether the "to-dos" are not becoming "dones" because you are waiting for answers, clarity, motivation, or a free moment, checking off small actions one-by-one can dislodge enough obstacles to help you start clearing the jam for good. Even better, completing the project altogether can bring fresh waves of satisfaction and momentum. Phoenix, ef grace

3. Clear the airPsychic murkiness can also come about from long- standing tensions or misunderstandings. Of course, it may be best to keep some issues on hold due to special protocols and considerations, or both parties may be observing a wisely inserted "time-out". However, there are bound to be some lingering quagmires that are long overdue for a flush-out.
Sure, it may be difficult to broach the subject (again), but chances are the other party feels or has felt the tension for a while too. They may have been struggling with how to address the situation just as much as you have. The result? Neither of you moves forward and the emotional swamp remains. Be forewarned-- re-opening a can of worms could upset the current status quo, but... it could also help mend a broken heart or relationship. Opening up the discussion can shed some much needed light on a situation or even begin the path toward reconciliation. Inspiring new doors could open, or you may find much-needed closure for old ones. |
4. Embrace your faith. Those with strong faith can find guidance, inspiration, enlightenment, and peace through their beliefs. Whether practiced privately or within a community, the strength that is drawn from faith is in the awareness that you are connected to a Source greater than yourself. Reflect on the relief and confidence of knowing that the burdens of the world are not yours alone to carry. This can be both humbling and empowering, while offering solace and clarity.
Whether your faith finds you worshipping with others or in private sacred session, engaging with your spiritual practices can have the equivalent feeling of a soul shower! Re-affirm your beliefs regularly and you will surely find yourself replenished by them. |

5. Reboot with meditation
Surely at some point, you have become frustrated by an increasingly sluggish device. Tell me if this sounds familiar:
Little by little, you start to notice that your device is processing more slowly, lagging in response, glitching-- just becoming less efficient altogether. You can't quite put your finger on why, but it is beginning to frustrate you to no end!
Did you then frantically call tech support only to hear you just needed to reboot? Same. So you follow the advice and lo and behold, your beloved device is back to its old marvelous self again (perhaps even with new upgrades)! While serious issues may require more intervention, a simple reboot is often just what your device needed to flush out the cache of data buildup from everyday activities.
Now how about that supercomputer in your own head? Much like your PC needs this type of breather to clear and repack processes, your own psyche also needs this regular maintenance. The stress of leaving thoughts and ideas unprocessed can begin to build up, draining your resources and robbing your efficiency.
Just think of all the steps, plans, concerns, fears, and obligations we slog through every day. Your mind needs a rest to absorb, contemplate, and process all this mental activity in a healthy way. When you find yourself sluggish and acting up just like your laptop, some psychic TLC is certainly in order.
By now, you certainly have heard the buzz about meditation and mindfulness. These ancient wisdoms are just as useful today in our fast paced world of information, measured in Gigabytes per second.
Traditional meditation not for you? Even eating a meal with purpose can be a mindful activity! Check out my quick list on ways to embrace wellness that don't necessarily have to involve you sitting cross legged with your eyes closed.
Just remember-- you don't have time NOT to have down time! Reboot and restore.

6. Express yourselfExpress Yourself- self portrait, ef grace
When thoughts and theories are rambling about in your head, it is not so much about dismissing them, but processing them through. Letting these ideas and concerns have their moment in the spotlight can help take the pressure off of the buildup in your psyche.
Speaking from extensive personal experience, I can tell you that expressing your thoughts and inspiration through art is downright therapeutic, whether that art is visual, written, audible, or experienced. |
7. Pay it forwardThe Pick-Up, ef grace
Regardless of whether you have worked hard for your abundance, have enjoyed fortunate circumstances from birth, or were suddenly been showered with blessings, paying the kindness forward can be a powerful means of completing the cycle.
Try donating your time, materials, attention, or excess possessions to those in need. It can feel remarkably satisfying to help others and yourself at the same time. Instead of feeling that you are close to bursting with wasted talent, excess time, or overgrown accumulation, these gifts can instead go toward helping someone else (and your own self!) survive your storms, nourish your spirits, and continue on! |
I hope you've enjoyed this season's List! I invite you to consider your own thoughts on the matter and share with us on social. Next time you sit down with a cup of coffee, take a nibble on these ideas, and watch them gradually manifest throughout the year. Good luck! ~efg
