So I am on a mission.
My 11 year old son is...well...11--that middle ground of adolescent, tweeny goodness. It also means he was born in this millennium, a child of the Age of Technology, where he receives a hundred flashy, demanding messages a minute.Yes, we talk and garden and cook and go on adventures, but he loves his screen time just as much as most of us do. We just got a new computer that can keep up with the faster pace of today's media, and my son is itching to get on and browse. Just as I am learning to take a step back and give him some "big boy freedom" in other things, I am also trying to balance his media freedom. So...I have spent a few hours tonight dedicated to researching and test-surfing a great variety of fun, educational, and/or entertaining links tailored to his taste, and safe enough for my liking. Of course I don't have time for this--the dishes are piled in the sink, I have a million projects unfinished, and any second he will come in begging to take over the computer (after all, I have been online for hours--lol). That's okay. It was worth it. :)

Oh, my God. Thank you for this miracle. Was he ever so small, so new, so full of wonder? |
